Why we should all live more according to Ayurvedic teachings

Wieso wir alle mehr nach der ayurvedischen Lehre leben sollten

The teachings of Ayurveda are becoming increasingly well-known here in Europe. Nevertheless, most people still associate it with wellness treatments or beauty products. Yet, behind it lies a much deeper health philosophy that we should pay more attention to.

What exactly is Ayurveda?

It is a traditional Indian system of medicine that has been practiced for thousands of years. The term comes from the ancient Indian Sanskrit language and is composed of the words Ayus (life) and Veda (knowledge). It therefore deals with the science of life.

At the World Health Organization, the traditional recipes and wisdom from Ayurveda are recognized as a medical science. The goal is to live in inner balance and thus prevent illnesses.

What does Ayurveda stand for?

This art of healing views life as a whole, but considers each person individually, taking into account body, mind, and soul.

These elements must be balanced to ensure harmony and inner balance in the body. Ideally, we maintain this state always, so that body and mind remain healthy in the long term.

However, our balance can be disrupted by internal and external influences. Stress, too little exercise, poor nutrition, and lack of sleep are just some of the causes. If we are affected by these factors, it can negatively impact our life energies, the so-called Doshas.
They form the pillars of our health and are responsible for the functions in our organism. They are expressed differently in every person.
Therefore, it is important to know which Doshas dominate in order to identify and establish our individual balance.

What are the three Doshas in Ayurveda?

  • Vata
It is the principle of movement and is closely connected with the nervous system, circulation, and respiration.

  • Pitta
Describes the metabolic principle and includes digestive processes, as well as our intelligence and emotions.

  • Kapha
Is the structural principle and regulates the function of the immune and lymphatic systems. It gives the body form and endurance. When these elements are in harmony with each other, we are healthy and feel alive.

What can we learn from Ayurveda?

Unfortunately, in the stress of everyday life, our body does not always receive the care it deserves. We can make use of the recommendations of Ayurveda and apply them to our Western habits. They help us maintain our balance so that we feel well, happy, and balanced.

There are various ways to integrate Ayurvedic habits into our daily lives. The central elements are:

  • Massages and cleanses with purification techniques
  • Mental health
  • Nutrition
  • Yoga and meditation
  • Herbal medicine

The latter is a helpful addition to further enhance one's well-being. Plants and their extracts are attributed health-promoting effects. They influence our Doshas and thus our inner balance. This makes us more resilient to internal and external influences. Nowadays, some of them are offered as Ayurvedic food supplements and are an ideal companion in everyday life.

This shows that pleasure and health do not necessarily have to be mutually exclusive. To achieve balance according to Ayurvedic teachings, one specifically strengthens one's organism where it would be weakened by negative influences. These weaknesses are known to us and either require our constant attention (sufficient exercise) or occur individually and are treated selectively.

So, if there is too much alcohol at the next celebration, we can support the stressed functions of the body during that time. Especially bitter substances are ideally suited for this, as they stimulate digestion and relieve the liver. Unfortunately, bitter substances are no longer found much in food today, as they have been bred out of food over time because... well, they were too bitter.

Our product vedi up contains completely natural bitter substances. This is also why vedi up offers excellent support during an enjoyable break. It is a combination of seven Ayurvedic medicinal plants. In practical capsule form, they are taken before or during an enjoyable evening.

According to Ayurvedic teachings, the following plant extracts help protect the liver and promote vitality:

  • Grape extract
Function: antioxidant, strengthens the immune system

  • Chicory root
Function: protects the liver and promotes a healthy gut

  • Kalmegh herb
Function: blood purifying, promotes healing processes in the body

  • Ashwagandha
    Function: stress-reducing, calming

  • Bitter Crossflower

Since Ayurveda emphasizes the individual consideration of each person, it can be easily integrated into one's daily life. There are no strict rules or prohibitions.

You create your own rituals that you can implement even in turbulent times. You just need to know how to help yourself and, if necessary, have the right products by your side to make it easier. This way, you can easily integrate this traditional healing art into our modern times and create a healthy, sustainable lifestyle.
